The Anti Blemish and Scar Repair Serum is one of the most or I should say the most selling products of 47 Skin. 47 skin claims a lot about this serum, here are some;

• Minimizes the acne on your face
• Finishes with a more youthful and hydrated skin
• With the very first application, the effects are visible; it reduces the appearance of dark spots and pimples 
• Clears skin and reduces acne scars of all times.

How does 47 Skin work?

To check out whether 47 Skin’s claims are reasonable or not, we need to look more into the formula of their serum. 

The following are a few things that make me a little doubtful about 47 Skin…

47 Skin Serum ingredients

47 Skin serum contains a round of 20 ingredients which can not be said to be good or bad. 

The thing that actually catches my attention is the huge concentrations of essential oils also called fruit oils. These include; orange oil, bergamot fruit oil, tangerina peel oil and grape fruit oil. 

These oils are more likely to cause skin irritation at their use, increasing the acne scars on your face even at microscopic level. 

That’s why these ingredients are not wise to use even to clear acne and for acne scar treatment, either for sensitive to normal skin as well, these oils can cause irritation. 

So, the essential oil in formulation is really contradictory to the 47 Skin’ claims of clear skin with minimized scarring and inflammation.  

The Silver Chitoderm Complex

The key ingredient; silver chitoderm complex can be said as the only thing supportive for 47 Skin’s huge claims. Because of the anti-bacterial properties, silver has been used in the healthcare remedies and acne prone skin treatment since very old times. 

This formulation can be a proof for 47 Skin, claiming their serum provides an “anti-bacterial shield”.

While searching 47 Skin reviews, the main concern is the scientific preferences of silver chitoderm. During my research on 47 Skin acne reviews and silver chitoderm, I found only one study; a comparative study between a similar silver gel and 1% clindamycin gel when each is used alongside 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.

Here is the summary for that study;

• A test was performed, mixing silver with benzoyl peroxide compared to a combination of clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide.
• Clindamycin is a traditional antibacterial ingredient used while combined with benzoyl peroxide. 
• Silver gel performance was far better than clindamycin.

Conclusion on 47 Skin Silver Chitoderm

Concluding the whole, I found that clindamycin and silver both have antibacterial properties and both work well when combined with benzoyl peroxide.

I think using silver was just a unique alternative to clindamycin, 47 Skin has used for better marketing. 

The study also doesn’t explain any mechanism of silver and clindamycin combined with benzoyl peroxide and how they work.

Benzoyl peroxide alone is very efficient for acne prone treatment, so it can be true for benzoyl peroxide or being the actual lifter. Lactic acid is also present, a highly effective ingredient for exfoliation and lightening of dark spots. 

Other 47 Skin Ingredients

47 Skin serum also contains a number of other ingredients specific for hydration. Glycerin is present in large amounts and quite effective for all skins, dimethicone and cyclopentasiloxine from the silicone family are also present. 

Once silicone suits your skin, then they are very good for the skin, they do work well in acne treatment and also locks the moisture in the skin. 

Shea butter is also present which I personally suggest to avoid, it may work well for acne prone but in most cases it has triggered the acne. 

Why So Many 5-Star Reviews?

When we go for 47 Skin reviews, we see a lot of positive reviews, I think the following are some reasons.

For me, reviews on brand’s own website are really not trust worthy, as they can easily be manipulated. Brands just buy positive comments by refunding the customers. 

And the same goes for Amazon.

So to clear my confusion, I actually prefer Boots’ reviews, they look quite doubtful. I found about eight reviews and all are five star seem very fake, like “Life changing”, “Wonder serum”, “Miracle product”.

As for 47 Skin reviews, there are a mixture of comments, positive and negative feedbacks. 

Concluding it, good reviews on brand’s site and tiktok make it quite suspicious. These are my random opinions, but that doesn;t mean that skincare brands are really fake and inefficient.

Bacterial vs Hormonal Acne

Bacterial acne and hormonal acne are 2 different things. Hormonal acne treatment is different from bacterial acne treatment. For this reason, both topical and oral medications are included in hormonal acne treatment.

Hormones can also get disturbed by birth control and oral spironolactone activating the hormonal acne. 

The difference between hormonal and bacterial acne is that the hormones are not affected by skin products, as they are an internal factor, mostly stimulating acne in females while bacterial acne happens on skin surface level because of infections and allergies. 

These infections are most common in oily skins, as oil provides a suitable condition by triggering pimples and inflammation, that is why oil production and bacterial growth are most often targeted in acne treatments.

If you are a female, then all acne prone skin is the same for you. A female’s hormonal acne doesn’t respond the same as males to different things. That’s why I think 47 Skin is really not reliable because the founder is male. 

I am not being biased but it is reality, he might have formulated it suiting to his skin while it works differently for females.

Retinoids are one of those products which should be tested thoroughly.

Most dermatologists prescribe adaplene, epiduo, tretinoin or a few others which are actually different types of retinoids. Retinoids are said to be the only product which has proven the anti ageing benefits.

While comparing the 47 Skin serum and retinol, definitely it is retinol. Retinoids are being studied for so long that now they have been very well papered and documented.

Its continuous use has following benefits;

• Clearer skin
• Smoother surface
• Reduced fine lines appearance
• Fades dark spots
• Treats acne quicker

So, summarizing all these, retinoids are the real life wonder. If you are thinking of including retinoids in your skincare routine, you really need to give it a try.

Concluding this whole post, I would say 47 Skin Anti Blemish and Scar Repair Serum will work well for your acne if it is some differently specific acne. 

But in my opinion it is not good for hormonal acne in females. This is because 47 Skin does not target hormonal acne, but it can provide some ways for it or create the conditions so I would recommend you the serum to use.
